We commenced the meeting with three short videos explaining what Histograms (as applicable to photography) are and how they can be used. The three videos were:
Discussion: Future PhIG programme: The existing photo subjects programme takes us through to the end of the year but, for those who like some lead time to take photos, we need to start developing a programme for 2019. To this end, members are asked to select their preferred photo topics from the list circulated previously (and attached as an appendix to these notes). A list of topics will be derived from the survey response. Those at the meeting agreed on having two short video sessions during the year and so members are asked to select 10 subject topics from the list. (Though we usually don’t meet in December so there are 11 meetings during the year) Graeme Deutscher suggested that he would like to see some challenging photos topics but, in the ensuing discussion, it was accepted that almost any topic can be as challenging as the photographer wishes. The following two technical topics were suggested for inclusion in the forward programme:
Photo Critique: The topic for this meeting was ‘Showing movement’ and 10 members submitted sets of up to 6 photos each. Several different techniques were demonstrated to ‘show movement’, some of the best being shown below: August Meeting (20th August 2018): In a lead-in to the September meeting photo subject; ‘Birds in Flight’ the technical session will examine how to photograph birds in flight. The photo review session will be on the subject ‘Wharfs and jetties’ and John Cavanagh has agreed to host the meeting. The 'Showing Movement' photos:
The next PhIG meeting will be hosted by Glen Moore at the AIIM conference room at Campus East on Monday 16th July commencing at the usual time of 10:00 am

If you would like a coffee before the meeting It would be best to get there no later than 9:45 am The Draft Agenda will be as follows: Technical Topic: The technical topic for the June meeting will be ‘Understanding Histograms. The histogram is a very useful tool to help get the exposure correct and so it is worth understanding what it can tell us. We will kick off the meeting with a couple of short videos as a discussion starter and if you can bring along your camera to the meeting we can demonstrate how to use the histogram to adjust the exposure.
