Attendees: R Evans, G Deutscher, J Devenish, M Neilsen, B Parker, J Cavanagh, G Moore, D Warner
Apologies: N Arnold, W Janssen, D Connell, C Korgitta, P Childs Venue: The meeting was hosted by John Cavanagh at Mt Ousley and we thank him for doing so. Technical topic: This month’s technical topic was ‘Flash Photography’ and was introduced using two videos:
Photo Shoot: There was a bit of confusion on the proposed ferry photo shoot as to whether we were talking about a Georges River cruise (Bass and Flinders) or a Port Hacking cruise (Cronulla ferries). For the Bass and Flinder’s Georges River cruises the options boil down to:
I will check via e-mail to see what would be preferred. Video topic: After some discussion, the meeting decided to not have a specific topic for the November meeting. Videos should be no longer than 2 minutes and, preferably, a compilation of shots into a clip and then into a short video. Time lapse videos are acceptable. Future photo subjects: To give members plenty of lead time to photograph (or video) a subject prior to a meeting it is desirable to have topics set at least 6 months ahead. As we will shortly be running out of topics for this year we need to set some more for 2018. It was generally agreed that the topics chosen should be a balance between challenging our use of a camera and challenging our creativity. A list of possible topics is attached and each member is asked to select the 10 best topics they would like to see chosen for the future. Additional topics can be included by anyone. It was suggested that where a topic requires a specific camera technique the technique should be discussed at a meeting a month prior to the photo submission. Photo Critique: Only five members submitted their ‘Nightscape’ photos for the critique session. This was quite a challenging subject since it required a long exposure using a tripod and finding a clear night to take a photo to show the night sky. Some very interesting photos were submitted as shown below: October Meeting: The photo topic for the October meeting will be ‘Freeways (or Motorways)’ Robert Bonella has agreed to host the meeting. Attendees: R Evans, J Cavanagh, B Parker, J Devenish, G Moore, G Deutscher, M Neilsen
Apologies: N Arnold, W Janssen, D Connell, C Korgitta, P Childs The next PhIG meeting will be hosted by John Cavanagh at 103a New Mount Pleasant Rd. Mount Ousley on 18th September commencing at the usual time of 10:00 am. The Agenda will be as follows: Technical Topics: Our technical topic for this meeting will be ‘Flash Photography’ As usual we will kick off with a short training video as a discussion starter Photo Shoot: Last meeting it was decided to take a cruise up the Georges River in October either Sunday 22nd or 29th October. Video topic: The subject for the November meeting is ‘Short Videos’ which we have defined as being 2 minutes maximum. In the past, we haven’t specified a topic for the video session but a suggestion for November is ‘Sports action’. Future photo topics: We are approaching the end of our planned photo topics for 2017 and so need to start compiling a list of topics for 2018. Attached is a list of 40 topics I have plagiarised from ‘ViewBug’ which might give us some ideas. Whatever topics we choose we need to set them some time in advance to give sufficient time to take the shots. Photo Critique: The photo topic will be ‘The Night Sky’ or ‘Night Skyscapes’. It tests our ability to take long exposure shots. Photos have been received from: J Cavanagh, R Evans, G Moore, M Neilsen, B Parker September Meeting: Robert Bonella has agreed to host the October meeting and the photo topic will be ‘Freeways’. |
